Fact check: Zakir Naik is alive



Social media was abuzz on Sunday morning with reports regarding Dr. Zakir Naik's reported demise at age 58; although much speculation existed surrounding this news source. No official confirmations could be provided by reliable authorities at that point in time.




Though Dr. Naik enjoys global recognition, he remains subject to intense speculation in India over his life and whereabouts. False reports circulated regarding his arrest last July while unsubstantiated reports are now spreading regarding rumors concerning his demise.



However, an exhaustive investigation of these allegations have debunked them as false claims and fabrications. Dr. Zakir Naik remains alive and in good health as of December 2023 with no concrete proof pointing towards any cause for his reported demise; any misinformation surrounding his demise likely serves to further perpetuate misinformation without factual basis or justify its spread by someone with malicious intentions.

 


India implemented a ban on Dr. Zakir Naik's Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), as well as initiating an FIR against him on allegations that his speech propagates hate speech and incite terrorism both domestically and abroad. Media reports detailed allegations claiming his role in inciting Muslim youth to join terrorist acts both locally and overseas.

 


Dr. Naik has been living in Malaysia since 2017, though this year Oman extended an invitation for him as a "state guest", inviting him to deliver two religious lectures during Ramzan. According to reports, India urged Omani authorities to apprehend and extradite Dr. Naik back home.

Cabinet Approves Annual Salary Deduction of Govt Employees for Health Insurance Plans The Punjab government has decided to implement an annual premium deduction from employee salaries under their health insurance program. Back in October, the health department made their decision regarding this salary deduction and wrote directly to both departments for approval by provincial cabinet.
